GOLF COURSES

Bald Head Island Golf Club
This George Cobb design is only reachable by ferry. The ride over to Bald Head is a treat in itself. Hold onto your hat on the ride over, and on the course. Views of the Atlantic Ocean and Cape Fear River are breathtaking. A very demanding, challenging and scenic course. The round trip ferry ride is $15.00, and the car parking fee is $5.00. Well worth the trip!

Beau Rivage
An 18 hole championship course built in 1988 featuring new tif eagle greens, naturally contoured bermuda fairways and tees with elevations of 70 feet. The par 3's really make Beau Rivage a real treat. Water comes into play on 9 holes.

Belvedere Plantation
With its elevated greens and tree lined fairways, Belvedere will always be a challenge. The holes at Belvedere flow naturally through the woods. This is not a long course, but it's a tough 6,400 yards from the back tees. The greens are bent with 419 Bermuda fairways. Stay and play at Belvedere.

The Cape Golf & Racquet Club
You'll find tall pines, narrow fairways, well-bunkered greens and marsh areas that will make you know you're playing coastal golf. The Cape is situated between the Atlantic Ocean & the Cape Fear River. The wind is normally up, and that makes this layout even more challenging. Keep your eyes open on the 6th green, you may get to see some baby alligators. Host course for a 1997 NGA Hooters Tour event.

Carolina National at Winding River
The first Fred Couples design in the Carolinas. Located at Winding River Plantation, halfway between Wilmington and Myrtle Beach. This 27 hole course is destined to be one of the finest courses on the Eastern seaboard. In 1999 and 2000 Carolina played host to the official developmental tour of the LPGA with a Futures Tour event.

Castle Bay
The newest addition to Wilmington area golf. Castle Bay opened to rave reviews in November of 1999. Castle Bay will surely give Coastal Golfaway golfers a unique day of golf if you choose to play this links style layout. Just north of Wilmington, near Hampstead, Castle Bay is truly unlike any other course in the area.

Echo Farms Golf Club
6800 yards from the back tees says it all. This course can play long, and it normally does. Don't worry about Echo ruining a good score though. Excellent bentgrass greens. Challenging, but fair. Echo Farms is an original combination of open holes landscaped in the Scottish motif. Enjoy the Echo experience. Host course for a NGA Hooters Event for the last 3 years. Probably the most improved course in Wilmington after a recent major renovation.

The Founders at St. James Plantation
Located just off the Intracoastal Waterway, this P. B. Dye course will certainly require you to bring your best game to the beach. The Founders at St. James is set up on 200 acres of marsh, woodlands, and lakes. The finishing holes have been known to reek havoc with a player's score. Just 5miles from Southport, one of North Carolina's hidden treasures.

Lockwood Folly
A true links course located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Lockwood Folly River. Designed by Willard Byrd, Lockwood Folly will amaze you with dogwoods, water, live oaks, pines, and oyster shells that line the fairways and greens. The 18th hole finishes along the scenic Intracoastal Waterway. Wilmington golfers and Myrtle Beach enthusiasts love to play Lockwood Folly. Well worth the extra drive!

Magnolia Greens
One of the newest additions to Wilmington area golf is located 5 minutes SW of historic downtown on highway 17. A convenient course from any Wilmington area hotel, but it's convenient as well for a golfer that's driving to the Myrtle Beach area. How is this possible? If you're driving from Wilmington, or even from Raleigh to Myrtle Beach you'll pass by Magnolia Greens. Once there, you'll wish you had scheduled Magnolia Greens twice. It's a superb property, new, and a delight to play. The 27 hole course was designed by Tom Jackson. Host course for the 1998 & 1999 PGA Tour first stage Q-School.

Members Club at St. James Plantation
The second addition at St. James Plantation is certainly a treat. This Hale Irwin design is "player friendly", especially for the golfer who loves to find wide fairways off the tee. Most new courses tend to lack maturity, this one certainly does not. Chances are you'll have a pretty good score going at the Members Club if you're in control of your game but watch out for the 15th, 16th, and 17th holes. Be content to make par.

North Shore Country Club
One of our 2 Northern tier courses, but the trip to North Shore is always a favorite year after year for our golfers who travel to the Wilmington area. Located 35 minutes north of Wilmington, and only 2 minutes from Topsail Island Beach. The bentgrass greens and 419 Bermuda fairways provide ideal playing conditions year round.

Oak Island Country Club
Designer George Cobb, of Bald Head Island & Linville Ridge fame, uses the coastal terrain to give all levels of golfers a challenge. Water oaks, tropical vegetation, and constant ocean breezes are integral characteristics of this very popular course. Oak Island features 2 of the best finishing holes on the coast. Located on Yaupon Beach.

Olde Point Golf Club
This Wilmington area favorite sits in a natural setting of woods and water. Olde Point is lined with plush landscaping, lakes, and ponds. The new 419 Bermuda fairways complement the large bentgrass greens. Olde Point requires well-placed shots from the championship tees to a more relaxed round from the other 3 tees.

Player's Club at St. James Plantation
The newest addition at St. James Plantation. This Timothy Cate design may be best of the 3 St.James courses. Wonderful layout, probably not as tough as The Founders, but more a bit more challenging than the Members Club. The Players Club was crafted carefully to enhance the spectacular, natural beauty of the unspoiled coastal landscape.

Porters Neck Plantation and Country Club
This is the first and only course in the Wilmington area designed by world-renowned architect Tom Fazio. From the gold tees, Porters Neck plays 7200 yards, but only a few daring pros ever play it from the tips. A true championship course, Porters Neck hosted the 1995 North Carolina Open. Home course for LPGA Touring Pro Cathy Johnston Forbes. Hosted Round 1 of the 1997 PGA Tour Q-School.

River Landing Golf Club
Located 35 minutes NW of Wilmington, this Clyde Johnston design is a great choice for your first golf round on a week long trip. Play it on the way down to the coast, and then head down Interstate 40 to play the rest Wilmington or Myrtle Beach has to offer. River Landing is one of the best new courses of the Carolinas. The course now has 27 holes with several of the holes wrapping around the scenic Cape Fear River.

Topsail Greens Golf Club
Treat yourself to an exciting course with tree-lined fairways, well-bunkered Bermuda grass greens and enough water to make it interesting. From the island green on hole #8 to the tough par five that follows, Topsail Greens will impress the experienced player, but it will not intimidate a beginner. Come play this local favorite.
